Court Outcomes

Court Outcomes is a LEAP Criminal Law application available on all Criminal and Traffic matter types. It allows you to record, manage, and edit court outcomes directly from within a matter, helping you keep an accurate, up-to-date record of proceedings without leaving LEAP.

The application opens directly from the matter task bar, giving you fast access to create new outcomes or update existing ones as hearings progress.

Opening Court Outcomes

 

Court Outcomes opens directly from the matter task bar—no need to navigate away from your matter.

  1. Open the relevant matter in LEAP.

  2. Locate the Court Outcomes icon in the matter task bar.

  3. Click the icon to open the Court Outcomes window.

  4. The Court Outcomes window is pre-filtered to outcomes from the matter which you opened the app. If you want to see all outcomes across all matters, click the Clear button.

Creating a New Court Outcome

 

You can record a new court outcome at any stage of proceedings.

  1. Open Court Outcomes from the matter task bar.

  2. Click the New Outcome button, or the + symbol at the bottom of the table.

  3. Complete the required fields, including the hearing date, court, listing type, and any additional notes.

  4. Click Save to record the outcome against the matter.

You can create multiple outcomes against a single matter as hearings progress—for example, recording separate outcomes for a mention, plea hearing, and sentencing.

Create a Court Outcome using AI

 

Users can now create a Court Outcome with AI by using the ‘Populate from Correspondence’ button, and selecting the item of correspondence with the requisite information. Selecting a file note from a court appearance (hand-written notes, typed up notes or an email the lawyer may have sent themselves from court are examples of this) will fill out all available information in the fields of the Court Outcomes form. Nothing is created without human confirmation, and the user can reject or accept individual aspects of the AI populated information.

  1. Open Court Outcomes from the matter task bar.

  2. Click the Populate from Correspondence button. 

  3. Select the item of correspondence that has the notes from court.

  4. Confirm or reject the pieces of information that have populated, and Save the Court Outcome.

Editing an Existing Court Outcome

 

If a court outcome needs to be updated—for example, if a date has changed or additional details need to be recorded—you can edit it at any time.

  1. Open Court Outcomes from the matter task bar.

  2. Click the outcome you wish to update from the list of recorded outcomes.

  3. Click the Edit button.

  4. Update the relevant fields as required.

  5. Click Save to apply your changes.

Selecting Cancel will discard any unsaved changes. Make sure to click Save before closing the panel.

Generate a Letter to Client

 

You can now generate a letter to your client directly from a court outcome. Choose the type of letter you want to send, and Matter AI will draft the content using the details from your recorded outcome and matter.

  1. Open Court Outcomes from the matter task bar.

  2. Select the outcome you want to base the letter on.

  3. Click Generate Letter to Client, available from:

    • The toolbar

     

     

     

     
    • The actions menu on an outcome row

  4. Choose the letter type from the dropdown, for example Bail Application.

  5. Review the generated preview. Any sections that need your attention are flagged for review.

  6. Click Open in LEAP to send the letter to Word, where it's populated using your firm's letter template.

Nothing is sent to your client automatically. Always review the AI-drafted content, including any flagged sections, before finalising and sending the letter. Your firm's letterhead, signature and footer are applied automatically from your firm's letter template in LEAP and won't appear in the preview.

Searching & Filtering

 

The Court Outcomes app includes a Search bar so you can narrow the list down by key terms or people, and you can also filter by any of the columns within the table. 

Simply click the Filter icon on the desired column, and type or select the items you wish to filter by.

To clear the filter or search selection, click the Clear button.
