When you open Pathways from a matter, you'll be presented with a detailed summary of the matter's current status, along with estimated completion percentage.

Pathways can generate up to 9 suggested next steps for each matter. Suggestions are produced by examining all relevant data held in LEAP, including:

• Definable fields and tables
• Cards
• Critical dates and appointments
• Tasks
• Fees and financial summaries

Click the Refresh insights  button in the top-right corner of the window to update the displayed suggestions using the latest matter information.

Each suggestion is assigned a priority level, indicated by a coloured header.

• Red: High priority
• Amber/Yellow: Medium priority
• Grey: Low priority

For each suggestion, you have three options:

Each suggestion includes an About this suggestion button.

Selecting it opens a panel that provides additional context about the suggestion, including:

• The reason the suggestion was generated, based on the current state of the matter
• A confidence level indicating how strongly the AI recommends the action
• A risk composition profile, including whether the impact is material or negligible
• An estimate of the effort required to complete the task

The About this suggestion panel helps fee earners and support staff understand the reasoning behind each suggestion before deciding how to act on it.

Pathways uses dismissal feedback to improve its suggestions over time.

When a sufficient number of users dismiss the same suggestion type with the same reason, the underlying Matter Context Guide is updated to reduce or remove that suggestion from future recommendations.

This allows the quality and relevance of suggestions to continuously improve as more firms use Pathways.

Pathways Tasks can be accessed by clicking the Tasks icon on the left.

Tasks are shown on a board that’s organised into sections called swimlanes, each representing a different stage in the task lifecycle.

When you create tasks using Pathways Suggestions, they will automatically appear on this board, and you'll also find them in the Calendar & Tasks in LEAP.

The My matters view shows all tasks assigned to the currently logged-in user, across all matters. This gives each staff member a single, consolidated view of their workload at any point in time.

LEAP Firm Admins can access the My firm view, which displays all tasks created across the firm; for every user and every matter. The view supports filtering by assignee, making it straightforward to identify and reassign tasks when a staff member is unavailable. This supports workload management and cover planning without requiring manual follow-up.

Tasks can be progressed through their lifecycle by dragging and dropping cards between the following swimlanes:

• Not Started
• In Progress
• Waiting
• Deferred
• Completed

This provides a clear, visual representation of work in flight across all matters and allows the status of any task to be updated instantly.

Click on the task to edit the following:

• Assignee: Reassign the task to another staff member or add an additional staff member to collaborate on the task. 
• Due date: Amend the deadline as circumstances change.
• Status: Update the task’s current stage.

These fields can also be updated in bulk. Select one or more tasks, then choose the appropriate bulk action to apply the changes to all selected tasks.

For additional task details, click the Task Details  beneath the task. The following fields can be updated:

• Linked Matter: Change the matter associated with the task.
• Title: Update the task title.
• Priority: Change the task priority.
• Summary: Update the task description.
• Subtasks: Add child tasks to break down larger items into smaller, actionable steps.

Additional task options include:

• Duplicate – Create a copy of the task.
• Archive – Remove the task from active view.

Comments

You can also add comments to tasks via the Comments tab in Tasks Details. To notify another staff member, type @ and select the relevant staff member and complete your comment. 

History

Click the History tab to view the history of changes for the task. 

Tasks do not need to originate from a Pathways Suggestion. You can create tasks directly within Pathways Tasks by selecting Create task and completing the required fields:

• Linked matter
• Title
• Assignee
• Due date
• Priority
• Summary

Tasks created this way appear on the Kanban board and can optionally be synced back to LEAP.

The LEAP Sync function pushes tasks created or updated in Pathways back into the Calendar & Tasks in LEAP. This allows firms that prefer to manage tasks at the individual matter level in LEAP Desktop to continue doing so, while still benefiting from the consolidated view that Pathways Tasks provides.

Click the  icon to perform a LEAP Sync.

Automatic sync configuration is currently in development and will be available in a future release.

Pathways Agent can be accessed by clicking the Agent icon on the left. To start a new session, select the relevant matter from the left-hand pane, then enter your prompt or query in the field provided.

If Pathways Agent has been enabled for your firm, an Agent button will be available on Pathways Tasks.

Click Agent to pass the task onto the Pathways agent for execution. Follow the prompts to provide any required information and review the actions before proceeding.

General

• Theme: Select a Pathways theme: Light, System, or Dark.

Pathways Suggestions

• Suggestions Layout: Display suggestions as Cards or a List.
• Suggestions Sort: Sort suggestions by Due Date or Priority.

Pathway Tasks

• Tasks Layout: Display tasks as Cards or a List.
• Tasks Sort: Sort suggestions by Due Date or Priority.
• Task Timezone: Automatically set based on your local timezone.

Pathways Agent

• Enable Pathways Agent: Enable or disable the Pathways Agent feature.
• Display Pathways Agent Diagnostics: Show diagnostic information for Pathways Agent.
• Transcript Text Size: Set the transcript text size to Small, Medium, or Large.
• Transcript Font: Select the transcript font: Sans, Serif, or Mono.
• Transcript Line Spacing: Set the transcript line spacing to Tight, Normal, or Open.
• Side Panel Updates: Choose how Agent updates are displayed:
  • Auto Open: Automatically open the side panel when updates are available.
  • Badge Only: Display a notification badge without automatically opening the side panel.

Notifications

You can enable or disable notifications for Suggestions and Tasks.

Notification channels include:

• In-app: Receive notifications within Pathways for All or Priority Only suggestions and tasks.
• Browser: Receive push notifications in supported web browsers for All or Priority Only suggestions and tasks.
• Email:  Receive email notifications for All or Priority Only suggestions and tasks.

Matter Context

• Generate Summaries for Recent Documents: Select the number of recent documents to include when generating matter summaries.
• Load Recent Time and Fee Entries: Select the number of recent time and fee entries to include in the matter context.

Pathway Suggestions

• Generate Suggestions Limit: Choose whether Pathways generates up to 6 or 9 suggestions.
• Suggestion Task Creation: Choose whether tasks created from suggestions are added to Pathways only or to both Pathways and LEAP Tasks.

Pathway Tasks

• New Task Creation: Choose whether new tasks are created in Pathways only or in both Pathways and LEAP Tasks.
• LEAP Tasks Copy Scope: Choose whether to copy only Pathways-created suggestion tasks or all LEAP Tasks into Pathways.
• Update Pathways Tasks from LEAP: Toggle on this setting to automatically sync updates made to LEAP Tasks with the corresponding tasks in Pathways.
