General Receipt Reversed Without Reversing Associated Bank Deposit

How To

When a Bank Deposit is processed against the General Operating Bank, two steps occur:

A receipt is recorded, and then;
A bank deposit slip is processed that includes the related receipt.

For this reason, reversing a Bank Deposit also requires two steps:

Reverse the bank deposit, including the associated receipt
Reverse the receipt itself

If a general receipt is reversed without first reversing the associated bank deposit, the reversal will not appear in the QuickBooks General Bank Reconciliation screen. This also causes an imbalance in the LEAP Undeposited Funds clearing GL account.

Steps to Correct the Issue

Identify the Receipt Reversal Journal Entry.
1. Open the General Ledger Link.
2. Filter Export Status to Success.
3. Set the Date Range to the date of the receipt reversal.
4. Locate and note the LEAP receipt reversal journal entry number. (See example below.)
Locate the Journal Entry in QuickBooks.
1. Open QuickBooks.
2. Click the Search icon (magnifying glass).
3. Enter the journal entry number identified in Step 1.
4. Open the corresponding transaction.
Update the GL Account of the Journal Entry.
1. In the journal entry, locate the Credit GL Account line.
2. Change the account from LEAP Undeposited Funds to General Operating Bank.
3. Click Save in the bottom-right corner.

Completing these steps will:

Allow the receipt reversal journal entry to be reconciled against the bank deposit slip in the reconciliation screen.
Clear the LEAP Undeposited Funds GL account balance back to $0.00.
