When you have multiple lines on an invoice, the sum of these rounded amounts can sometimes be different to if you add up the total (Excl. tax) amounts for each line and calculate the relevant percentage of that.

  • LEAP calculates tax on a line by line basis (rounded to two decimal places) as opposed to calculating the tax on the invoice total. This is in keeping with HMRC's guidelines and eliminates rounding errors for line items on the same invoice that may have different tax details. Please see Section 17.5.1 of the HMRC VAT guide for more information.

  • Each line item on an invoice can have its own rate and have different tax treatments (taxable, non-taxable etc.). If required, you can choose a different tax rate for each line item.

  • The line item approach allows you to generate a single invoice with line items that can handle taxable and non-taxable entries.
