LEAP provides the ability to create and modify/ customise the Invoice Template that can be used when creating an invoice or creating an invoice mailing.

Desktop

Modifying the Invoice Template

Open the matter.
Make sure you're on the Details & Correspondence tab.
Click Forms & Precedents.

The Forms & Precedents will open in a new window.
Make sure you're on the Browse tab.
Navigate to Practice Management > Accounting > Accounting folder on the left-hand side.

Alternatively, you may search for your Invoice template precedent using the Search precedents field. Try using keywords such as "wordbill", "invoice", or "bill" to help locate the correct document.
Right-click the Invoice template and select Edit Precedent.

The Invoice template will open in Microsoft Word.
Make the necessary changes as desired.
Click Save & Close and provide Reason for Change.

You can follow the steps above to create two separate invoice templates for different situations (e.g., with varying bank details). We recommend duplicating the original template and making edits to the duplicate.

Assigning the Invoice Precedent's Class

To assign a default invoice precedent in Forms & Precedents, follow these steps:

Open the matter.
Make sure you're on the Details & Correspondence tab.
Click Forms & Precedents.

The Forms & Precedents will open in a new window.
Make sure you're on the Browse tab.
Navigate to Practice Management > Accounting > Accounting folder on the left-hand side.

Alternatively, you may search for your Invoice precedent using the Search precedents field.
Select your invoice of choice.
Right-click and click Change > Precedent's Class > Invoice.
In order to set a specific invoice as default, you would have to make sure every other precedent's class in this folder is set to None. If there are multiple invoices with a class of invoice, it will ask you to choose between those options every time.

Inserting Fields

With the Invoice template precedent opened in Modify Mode, from the LEAP tab, click Insert in Invoice section.

The LEAP Insert Fields window will appear on the right-hand side of the document.
By default, the drop-down list should automatically select Invoice template.

If not, click the drop-down list and select Invoice template.
Place the cursor in the precedent where you wish to insert the field and click to position it.
Select a field and click Insert.

If your firm would like to make any amendments to the Invoice Sections Layout, i.e., include the staff's initials, see Application Settings - Invoice > Layout.

Invoice Template Styles

The Invoice template uses Word Styles for the text, borders and shading within the body of the Invoice Template.

The entire text of the Invoice Template, by default, will use the Normal Style including the Invoice Layout i.e. the Professional Fees and Disbursements tables.
The header row of the Invoice Sections i.e. the Professional Fees and Disbursements tables uses the LEAPWordbillHeaderStyle.
The Invoice Sections table boarders and shading use the LEAPWordbillTableStyle.

To format the Normal Style i.e. the font and/or font size of the text within the Invoice Template:

With the Invoice template precedent opened in Modify Mode, click the Home tab.
Find and right-click the Normal style in Styles section.
Select Modify.

The Modify Style will open in a new window.
Select the font, font size, colour and other formatting for the Normal style.
Click OK.

Formatting Borders and Shading

The Invoice Sections i.e. the Professional Fees and Disbursements tables, by default have borders and shading. To format the borders and/or shading, within the Invoice Template:

Select the desired table within the Invoice Sections placeholder.
Click the Table Design tab.
Click the second drop-down arrow to expand the Table Styles list.

Click to edit heading

By default, LEAP uses the LEAPWordbillTableStyle.

Find and right-click the LEAPWordbillTableStyle and select Modify Table Style.

The Modify Style window will open.
Select the area of the table you wish to format e.g. Whole table or Header row from the Apply formatting to drop-down list.
Make the necessary changes for the border and shading.
Click OK.
