The PDF Forms feature allows users to create and manage PDF packets of forms tailored to specific matters within LEAP. The features include a Forms Browser for discovering forms and starting a packet, a Form Editor for preparing the forms in your packet, and additional tools for saving and organizing favorite forms.

PDF Forms is currently available in specific states and matter types where content exists. States and matter types will be expanded as we add content. Specific requests for additional or new PDF content can be logged here, and the Content Development Team will review and prioritize adding the content.

Enable PDF Forms

 

To enable PDF Forms:

  1. From the LEAP Matter List, click the LEAP Menu > Marketplace.

    The LEAP Marketplace will open in a new window.

  2. From the All Apps section, search PDF Forms.

  3. Click Enable.

    Once enabled, PDF Forms will appear in the LEAP Matter Ribbon.

The first time you open the PDF Forms app, you will be prompted to grant access to your LEAP system. Press Allow.

The Forms Browser

 

Start a New Packet

 

A packet is a set of one or more forms you prepare together for a matter.

You’ll work in two places:

  • the Forms Browser, where you find forms and start a packet, and
  • the Form Editor, where you fill them in and save them.

  1. From the Packets list, click New Packet in the top-right.

    If a matter has no packets yet, it opens here automatically.

  2. Optionally, type a name in the Optional packet name.

    If you leave it blank, the packet is named automatically with its creation date.

  3. Select your forms (see the sections below), then click Create Packet → to open the editor.

Use ← View Packets at any time to return to your packet list without creating a packet.

Browse for Forms

 

The browser has a folder tree on the left and the form list on the right.

  1. At the top of the left pane, choose a State from the dropdown (or Fed or All States).

  2. By default, the browser opens to the matter type and area of law of the matter you launched PDF Forms from.

    Expand an area of law, then a matter type, to see its forms. Select All forms to list everything in that area.

  3. If a matter type has sub-folders, they appear as folders underneath the matter type.

A breadcrumb above the list shows Area > Matter Type so you always know where you are.

Search and Sort Forms

 

  • Type in the Search forms… box to find a form by name or form number. Search looks across the whole matter type, ignoring sub-folder filters.

  • Click ⇅ Sort to view forms by Default (your firm’s order), By name, or By number. Your choice is remembered.

  • The header shows a running count of forms for the current view.

Favorite a Form

 
  1. On any form card, click the outline ☆ star (top-right of the card).
    It fills in to ★ to show it has been marked as a favorite form.
  2. Once you have configured some favorite forms, click the ★ Favorites button in the header to show only your favorite forms across every category.

Favorites are saved to your account and follow you between matters.

Click a filled ★ again to remove the favorite.

Preview a Form

 

  1. Click the eye icon (“Preview this form”) on a form card.

    A read-only preview of the actual PDF slides in from the right.

  2. For multi-page forms, use the page navigation (‹ 1 / 3 ›) or scroll between pages.

  3. Close the preview with its ✕, the Escape key, or by clicking outside it.

Previewing does not add the form to your packet.

Save Forms as a Collection

 

A Collection is a saved, named set of forms you can reuse on any future packet. These are ideal for creating batches of PDFs that you generally assemble together.

  1. Select 2 or more forms.

  2. Click Save as Collection in the header (or the same option inside the Collections panel).

  3. Enter a name (for example, Initial Filings) and click Save Collection.

Your collection is now available from any matter.

Use and Manage Collections

 

  1. Click Collections in the header to open the collections panel.

  2. Switch between My Collections and All Collections (firm-wide), and filter with the folder tree or the Search collections

  3. Click the caret next to the form count on a collection card to expand it and see the forms it contains.

  4. Click Add all to drop every form in the collection into your selection.

  5. Use the pencil to edit a collection, or the ✕ to delete it (this doesn’t affect packets you’ve already created).

Editing or deleting a firm collection you did not create for yourself is limited to firm administrators.

Assign a Scenario to a Form

 

A scenario is a saved set of recurring details that fills a form in automatically when the packet opens. In the browser you assign scenarios per form.

  1. When a selected form has saved scenarios, find the Scenario: dropdown on its meta line.
  2. Choose None, or a scenario grouped under My Scenarios, Firm Scenarios, or Other Scenarios.

Inside a Collection, each form has the same Scenario: dropdown, so a collection can remember a chosen scenario per form. Only scenarios built for the form’s current version are offered, and each form’s scenario is applied automatically when the editor loads.

Add Forms and Create the Packet

 

  1. Click a form card to select it (its checkbox ticks).

    Click again to deselect.

  2. To include more than one copy, use Add additional on the selected form; use the − button to remove a copy. A ×N badge shows the count.

  3. Review your choices in the Selected forms bar at the bottom.

    Chips can be dragged to reorder, or click a chip’s × to remove it.

  4. Click Create Packet → to open the packet in the editor.

Watch for the 💡 Often completed with bar beneath the list and click a suggested form’s pill to add it to your selections.

Manage Your Packets List

 

On the Packets screen, each packet card shows its name, form count, dates, and the forms inside. From here you can:

  • Click a card to open a packet, or drag cards to reorder them.

  • Use the cog (Packet options) to show the created date, last-modified date, or deleted packets.

  • Delete a packet with the 🗑 Deleted packets appear faded with Restore and Delete Forever actions.

  • An “In use” chip marks a packet someone else currently has open.

The Form Editor

 

The editor is where you prepare the forms in your packet. It has three areas: the Forms sidebar (left) for navigating and organizing forms, the Form area (center) where you fill everything in, and the header (top) with save, print, history, settings, and help.

Fill in a Form

 

Click any field in the center area and start typing. Any field that you type in will change to an amber color to indicate an “override” from the value that was loaded from the matter, if applicable.

Some fields will include dropdown selections from data on the matter, and you can still type a value in these fields. Any override value will remain in the form, even if you update data from the matter. A field can be reset to its original value (even if it was empty), by right-clicking on the field and selecting the Reset to original value option.

Fields that fill across forms

Some information, such as a case number or the client’s name, is shared across other forms in your packet. Type it into one form and it fills in wherever it fits on the others. Shared fields are marked with a small blue marker on their right side so you can spot them. To give a shared field a different value on just one form, right-click it and choose Unlink field value; choose Re-link to reconnect it later.

Use Undo, Copy/Paste and Shortcuts

 

The toolbar above the form includes Undo, Redo, Cut, Copy, Paste, Zoom, and page navigation (← / →) for multi-page forms. The standard keyboard shortcuts can also be used.

Format a Field

 

Fields can be formatted on specific forms and saved to your preferences, or global formatting preferences can be applied from the Global Formatting menu option.

To change an individual field format:

  1. Right-click a text, number, or date

  2. Open the format submenu at the top of the menu (the current setting is shown next to it) and choose a format:

    • Text case — None, UPPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case, First Capital, or Sentence case.

    • Date format — short (9/14/2024), padded, abbreviated (Sep 14, 2024), long (September 14, 2024), ordinal, two-digit year, or ISO — with UPPERCASE variants.

    • Number format — currency and plain-number styles, a custom decimal-places setting, a percentage toggle, and “in words” options.

To format several fields at once, Ctrl/Cmd-click each field (or ctrl-click and drag a box around them), then apply the format to all of them together.

Choose Save as default from the same menu to reuse a format on that field every time — just for you, or for your whole firm. Use Reset to original value or Reset to form default to undo field changes.

Set Global Formatting Defaults

 

Click the Settings (cog) in the header and choose Global Formatting to set default text case, date format, number format, and auto-resize that apply across every form you open.

Global defaults apply to new packets and forms going forward — they don’t change packets you’ve already worked on. You can still override any single field with a right-click. Most people rarely need to change these.

Turn on Auto-resize (Shrink-to-fit)

 

Right-click a field and turn on Auto-resize text to shrink text so it fits inside the field. If a value is still too big, the field shows a “Text may be cut off” warning. You can also set auto-resize as a default in Global Formatting.

Add a Signature

 

  1. Click Add Signature in the toolbar above the form.

  2. Create your signature on one of the four tabs: Saved (reuse one you’ve saved), Type (type your name in a “Write” or “Print” style), Draw (draw it), or Upload (upload a PNG, JPG, GIF, or WebP image).

  3. Click Place to drop it on the form without saving, or Save & Place to keep it for next time.

  4. Drag the placed signature anywhere on the page and resize it with its handles.

Drag the Add Signature button straight onto the form to drop your default signature in one move. Right-click a placed signature to edit it, remove it, or save its position as your (or your firm’s) default.

Add a Text Box

 

Text boxes let you add your own text anywhere on a form — a note, a reference, or a label the form doesn’t provide a field for.

  1. Click Add Text Box to drop one in the center, or drag it onto the exact spot you want.

  2. Type your text. Drag the box by its grip to move it, and use the handles to resize it.

  3. Right-click the box to change its Font, Font Size, or toggle Bold, or to delete it.

Apply or Create a Scenario

 

Scenarios, or saved sets of recurring details can be applied and created right in the editor. Scenarios can then be applied when adding the form to a packet, while editing the form in the packet, or even set into a Collection.

Apply a scenario

Right-click a form (or open the Scenarios button above the form) and pick one, grouped into My Scenarios, Firm Scenarios, and Other Scenarios.

Create a scenario

  1. Click Scenarios above the form to open the scenario bar.

  2. Give it a name and choose whether it’s Mine or shared with the Firm.

  3. Fill in the fields (and add any signatures or text boxes) you want it to include. A running count shows what changes to the form are being saved to the scenario.

  4. Click Save.

    Right-click any field, checkbox, signature, or text box while editing to include or exclude its value.

Add, Reorder and Remove Forms

 

  • Add — click Add Forms at the top of the sidebar to reopen the browser. To add another copy of a form you already have, right-click it and choose Add additional.

  • Select for saving — tick each form’s checkbox to include it when you save or print. With more than one form, use the Select All / Deselect All

  • Reorder — drag a form by its grip handle (the six-dot icon). A blue line shows where it will land.

  • Remove — right-click a form and choose Remove from packet. If it contains information you’ve entered, you’ll be asked to confirm.

Give a form a nickname with the Add label… box on its card — handy when a packet has several copies of the same form.

Add a Form as an Attachment

 

You can add attachment forms to PDFs so they save and print together as a single PDF. Some forms have attachments specifically designed to be used for that form, and others are generic attachments to be used for any form.

  1. Drag a form onto the middle of another form. It becomes a child of that form, and its pages are numbered as part of that filing.

  2. To separate them again, drag the attached form back out to make it standalone.

You can also right-click a form to Add Attachment from a template, or Add continuation page when a form runs out of room.

Save, Print or Download

 

  1. Tick the forms you want in the sidebar.

  2. Click Save to Matter (or Download outside a matter) and choose As Combined PDF to merge everything into one file (select two or more forms), or As Separate PDFs to keep each form as its own document.

  3. Or click Print to assemble the selected forms and send them to your printer.

When you combine forms, the Combine PDFs window offers Include bookmarks for shortcuts to each form so the merged PDF is easier to navigate.

Your work is saved automatically as you go. Click History in the header to review earlier saves and step through exactly which fields changed.
