Learn efficient workbook management and how to increase productivity by utilizing the options in the LEAP ribbon in Microsoft Excel Workbooks.

Desktop

Create a New Excel Sheet

To create a new blank excel spreadsheet in LEAP:

Open your matter.
Make sure you're on the Details & Correspondence tab.
Click New Document from the LEAP Ribbon.

The Create Document window will open.
In the 'Select Document Type' section, select Blank Excel.
Select the Recipient.
Click Create.

Your blank excel spreadsheet will open with filename "Blank Excel to [Recipient]".

To use any of the Advanced features in Excel you will need to save your spreadsheet to LEAP first, and then reopen it from the Correspondence list.

LEAP Options

Option	Description
Save & Close	Save and then close the current Microsoft Excel workbook.
Save	Save the Microsoft Excel workbook without closing it and continue working on the workbook.
Close	Close the Microsoft Excel workbook without saving.
Update	Refresh all LEAP fields with the current data.
Rename	Change the name of the Microsoft Excel workbook.
Delete	Delete the Microsoft Excel workbook from the matter.

Activity

Billable

Creating, editing, and reviewing Excel spreadsheets are all activities that are time-recorded. If you do not wish to bill for the time you are currently working on in the document, simply toggle off the Billable button.

Activity Properties

Clicking the small arrow in the bottom right corner opens the Activity Properties window, where users can select the Staff member associated with the activity or adjust the Time spent on the activity.

Advanced Options

Option	Description
Bring to Front	Your LEAP software comes to the foreground to enable you to view the LEAP matter.
Insert Field	Use this option to insert a field from the database into your Microsoft Excel workbook. Place your cursor where you want to insert the field in your workbook and click Insert Field. Then select a field from the table and click Insert.
Toggle Fields	Use this option to show field codes instead of data.
Delete Field	Delete a highlighted field. Please note: You can't use the Delete key on your keyboard to delete a highlighted field.
Convert Fields to Text	Converts any fields in the current Microsoft Excel workbook into plain text so that you can make one off changes to the workbook.
Replace References	Change the fields to another table type.

Insert Field

To insert a filed from the LEAP database into your Microsoft Excel workbook:

Open the Excel workbook from your LEAP Correspondence list.

If you've created a Blank Excel document, you will first need to Save it to the matter to be able to insert any fields.
Select the cell where you want to insert the field.

You can only insert a field into a clear cell; there can't be other text already in the cell, or else the field will not insert.
Select Insert Fieldfrom the Advanced ribbon.

The LEAP Document Automation window will open on the right hand side.
Select the card/table from the drop down list.
Select or Search for the specific field you wish to enter from the list.

The Value Preview window displays the text that will be entered into the cell. No preview means the field doesn't contain any data.
Double click on the field to insert it into the Excel sheet.

Toggle Fields

Clicking the Toggle Fields button will change the data preview to show field codes instead of text. This will give you a better understanding of what field the data is being extracted from.

LEAP Automation Options for Microsoft Excel

Open a Microsoft Excel workbook from your matter then click the arrow in the bottom right corner of the LEAP section in the LEAP ribbon to open the LEAP Automation Options for Excel window.

Option	Description
General
Allow Screen Updating during merge	Information such as status bar prompts, input boxes, dialog boxes, and message boxes remain visible while Excel is processing the current worksheet.
Prompt for reason when saving document	After saving, a prompt will appear requesting a reason for this change to be made.
