Dormant Matters with Trust Account Balances Report

Location: LEAP Menu > Reports > Trust > Dormant Matters with Trust Account Balances

Purpose: Lists inactive matters that maintain a current balance in the selected trust bank account. Users can refine the results by specifying a minimum period of inactivity relative to a chosen reference date. 

This report supports compliance and risk management efforts while enabling timely follow-up actions—such as reconciling unutilized funds or re-engaging with clients—to proactively manage trust accounts.

To be included in this report, a matter must meet both of the following criteria:

  • It must have a current general trust account balance associated with the selected bank account.
  • It must show no general trust-related activity for no less than the specified period, as measured from the designated "At Date."

Filters:

At DateDisplays matters with no trust account activity from the specified date for the selected general trust bank account.
Bank AccountSelect a specific general trust bank account to narrow the report's focus exclusively to that account.
No Activity For

Lists all matters that have experienced no activity at the specified "At Date" for one of the following duration or longer than it: 

  • 1 month
  • 2 month
  • 3 month
  • 6 month
  • 12 month
  • 24 month

NOTE:

The "At Date" filter sets a reference point for assessing activity, while the "No Activity For" filter specifies the minimum duration without trust transactions for a matter to be considered inactive. For example, if you set the At Date as Date A and the No Activity For period to 2 months, the report will capture matters where the Last Activity Date is at least 2 months before Date A.

Group ByGroup the report results by:
  • None.
  • Staff Responsible.
  • Staff Acting.


Report Fields:

MatterMatter number with inactive Trust Account activity.
Client NameThe client card(s).
Matter DescriptionThe matter description.
Last Active DateThe date when the most recent Trust Account transaction occurred on the matter, based on Transaction Date of the entry. 
Trust Balance The matter’s Trust Account balance.
Total Matter Total inactive matters.
TotalThe total Trust Account balance of inactive matters.
