Location: LEAP Menu > Reports > Management > Fee Contributions & Recovery by Matter Type

Purpose: The report provides details of Fee Contributions and Recovered Funds by matter type for a specified period, including a breakdown by individual matters. Users can filter the data based on their selected Staff Type ('Attribute Work to') and 'Staff', while also having an option to apply a higher level of grouping by 'Reporting Group'.

By organizing data by matter type, the report facilitates easy comparison of contribution and recovery trends across different matter types. It also aids in identifying patterns and trends within specific matter types, thereby supporting decision-making at the matter type level within the firm.

Report Trigger:

The report lists each matter for which transactions occurred during a specified period, determined by the user's date range selection (Matters Active from and Matters Active to).
The report assesses Staff fee contributions across the whole process of invoicing, from fee recording, invoicing, invoice adjustments to receipting, and thus considers the following transactions:

1. Professional fees (Time and Fee) entries dated within the specified period.
2. Invoices dated within the specified period.
3. Adjustments dated within the specified period.
4. Payments Received allocated within the specified period.

Important Notes:

1. The report does not concern expenses and excludes draft invoices when calculating invoiced professional fees.
2. The report is dynamic. It may alter when reprinted, typically as a result of backdated transactions.

3. The report presents the same data as the Fee Contributions & Recovery Report. This is indicated by their identical report filters, as well as their identical fields (except for the first columns due to the difference in grouping). However, please note the key distinction between the two reports:

This report organizes results by always grouping entries by matter type, a feature not available in the Fee Contributions & Recovery Report.
In contrast, the Fee Contributions & Recovery Report always groups entries by the chosen Staff Type: Staff Responsible, Staff Acting, Staff Assisting, Originating Attorney, or Staff. The Staff-focused approach makes the Fee Contributions & Recovery Report more suitable to support staff-related decision-making and insights.

Despite the difference in data organisation, users can expect consistent overall data results from both reports. When generated with the same filter settings, users can expect matching figures for the same metrics between the two reports, such as those related to matter total or grand total.

Report Filters:

Date Range	Displays featured transactions that occurred within the chosen date range. NOTE: The Date Range should be less than one year.
Attribute Work to	Consists of three filters: 1. Inc. Inactive Staff: Provides an option to either include or exclude Inactive Staff Members. NOTE: A Staff member is considered Inactive if their Current Staff Member option is togged off under the Access & Permissions in the Staff Details window (Menu > Settings > Application Settings > Firm > Staff > Members). 2. Attribute Work To: Directs the report to calculate and display figures against: Staff Responsible: The Staff responsible on the matter. Staff Acting: The Staff Acting on the matter. Staff Assisting: The Staff Assisting on the matter. Originating Attorney: The Originating Attorney on the matter. Staff: The Staff member who contributed to the professional fees (i.e., as a Contributor) in this report. NOTE: A Staff member becomes a Contributor by: Their name being selected for the professional fee entries, or Fee reallocation to them on a finalized invoice, with the reallocated amount captured within the 'Invoice Adjustment Notes' column. 3. Staff: Provides a staff list to select from, allowing users to filter by those to whom the work has been attributed. NOTE: When you change the selection for Inc Inactive Staff (from Yes to No or vice versa), the Staff dropdown list will be updated accordingly.
Reporting Group	Displays results based on the selected Reporting Groups. You can Select all or choose certain Reporting Group(s). Matters that have not been assigned to any Reporting Group are placed within 'unassigned'. Refer to this article for instructions on Reporting Groups (under 'Reporting Groups').
Inc Tax	Display figures inclusive or exclusive of tax.
Display	Consists of two filters: 1. Expand Row Groups: Yes: With this option, all row groups will be expanded, giving the full details, including the Matter No. and Client associated with the relevant invoice. No: With this option, the Matter No. and Client associated with the relevant invoice are not displayed. 2. Group By: Offers the following grouping options: None: No additional grouping is applied. However, default grouping may still occur based on the selected work attribution: If Attribute Work to is set to Staff Responsible, Staff Acting, Staff Assisting or Originating Attorney (rather than Staff), the report will automatically group the results by the selected Staff type. When fully expanded, it will provide a Contributor breakdown under the grouping Staff member and further a matter breakdown under each Contributor, as shown below. If Attribute Work to is set to Staff, no default grouping is applied. The report will list individual Contributors and provide a matter breakdown under each Contributor. Reporting Group: Applies higher-level grouping by Reporting Group.

Reports Fields:

Reporting Group/Matter Type/Matter No.	Displays the relevant grouping applied based on the selected Attribute Work To and Group By settings.
Matter No. and Client	Displays the Matter No. and Client associated with the relevant invoice when the Expand Row Groups is set to Yes.
Fees Recorded	The amount of professional fees (including those with the status 'Not Billable') recorded within the specified date range, based on transaction date.
Fees Written Off	The amount of Not Billable Time and Fee entries recorded within the specified date range, based on transaction date.
Fees Invoiced	The amount of professional fee entries invoiced within the selected date range, based on the invoice transaction date. NOTE: This field only considers finalized invoices. It is calculated based on the professional fee entry's original amount (i.e. the amount that appears in the professional fee window), not their billed amount.
Final Invoiced Amt	Professional fee entries invoiced within the specified date range, based on the invoice transaction date on finalized invoices only. NOTE: If there is a variance between 'Fee Invoiced' and 'Final Invoiced Amt', the variance arises from fee altering before finalizing an invoice. Please refer to this article for instructions on altering fees (located under 'Additional Options').
Invoice Adjustment Notes	Adjustments to Professional Fee contribution made within the selected date range. This typically results from Invoice adjustments but can occur due to fee reallocations. NOTE: Only adjustments within the specified date range will be captured by the report.
Payments Allocated	The amount of Professional Fees that received Payments allocation within the selected date range, based on Payments allocation date. NOTE: Only Payments Allocated within the specified date range will be captured by the report.

More Tips:

The report is dynamic, and its results may change upon reprinting with the same filter settings. Figures may be updated due to changes between two report generation times, including:

Modifying the date of a unbilled Time or Fee entry, which may affect 'Fees Recorded'. This typically occurs when a Time or Fee is backdated.
Creating a new Time or Fee entry and dating it within the specified date range. This may impact 'Fees Recorded'.
Changing the billing status of a Time or Fee (e.g., from Billable to Not-Billable). This may impact 'Fees Written Off'.
Reversing an invoice after the 'To Date', which removes the invoice from the calculation of 'Fees Invoiced' or 'Final Invoiced Amount'.
