How To

The WealthCounsel integration with LEAP allows for sophisticated Estate Planning documents to be drafted and securely stored to the LEAP matter.

Note that to use the integration with WealthCounsel, an active WealthCounsel membership is required. If you experience issues with WealthCounsel integration, please ensure that your LEAP account email addresses matches up with the email address used with your WealthCounsel membership.

The WealthCounsel app is automatically enabled for users and can be accessed from the Details & Correspondence tab of your LEAP Matter.

Accessing the WealthCounsel App

Open a relevant matter type in LEAP.

The WealthCounsel app is available for Estate Planning and certain Business Law matter types.

From the Details & Correspondence tab of the matter, click the Create or Edit Document button with a WealthCounsel sub-heading.
This will initiate the WealthCounsel drafting software.

The WealthCounsel Word Ribbon is required for documents to operate correctly in Microsoft Word. Click the Install Ribbon from the initial screen to download the Ribbon. This process is only needed once per computer.

Starting to Draft a Document

To draft a document using WealthCounsel:

Open a relevant matter type in LEAP.
From the Details & Correspondence tab of the matter, click the Create or Edit Document button with a WealthCounsel sub-heading.
The initial screen will display the document catalog, offering all of the documents that are available to create.
Navigate the catalog to find the desired document, then click the Create Document button. If this document has never been used for that matter, the drafting area will immediately open.
If this document has been used previously for this matter, existing answer sets can be accessed. Use the dropdown list to edit or continue drafting the document for this matter or select the New radio button to start creating from a new answer set.

Understanding the Drafting Area

The drafting interface provides different views to complete your document, which you will access using the icons in the upper right corner of the navigation bar.

Interview

The first item in the toolbar is the Interview icon. The interview is where you provide various answers relating to the legal design, formatting, and the nature of the underlying document. It prompts you for all the information and decisions needed to complete the various documents generated by the system. The left side of the interview has a list of the interview screens and depicts the progress.

Contact cards can be added or edited within the WealthCounsel interview. Once saved, these will automatically be added or updated within LEAP. Cards will be added as Additional Contacts type cards, except for Children added to the Grantor/Child contact record (under the “Additional Information” section) who will be created as Child cards.

Note that:

Not all fields will match. Middle names in particular should be included in the First Name field as LEAP does not have a dedicated middle name field.
WealthCounsel mandates the Gender field. Any contacts with a gender selected as Other will be prompted to select Male or Female in WealthCounsel. This won’t affect the LEAP card.
The above does not apply to WealthTracx.

If any cards on the LEAP matter are changed during the drafting process, click the Update button at the top of the screen to update the WealthCounsel app with the latest information, or close and reopen the WealthCounsel screen. For instructions on creating a card in LEAP, click here.

Document Set

The Document Set is a collection of documents designed to work with the same group of answers/variables. This view shows the list of documents and allows you to see the progress of the other documents, switch over to those document views or interviews, or start the documents in the list if they have not been started.

Working Document

Click the Working Document icon to access an on-screen view of the document you are working on. It is a close (but not exact) representation of the document that will be created. For example, some underlines or indentations may not be identical to the finished document. The table of contents on the left and the key at the top describe what you will see in this view.

Accessing State Specific Documents in WealthCounsel

To access state-specific ancillary documents available in WealthCounsel such as the Illinois Certificate of Trust , you must first ensure that you are working within an Estate Planning matter in LEAP. Verify that the Matter Type is correctly set to Estate Planning before proceeding.

Once in the appropriate matter, navigate to the Details & Correspondence tab to access the WealthCounsel drafting integration. Click the Create or Edit Document button to open WealthCounsel’s catalog of forms and templates. From there, you can search for and select the Illinois-specific Certificate of Trust, along with other relevant state-specific documents.

Finishing and Saving Your Document to LEAP

Click the Find Unanswered icon in the upper right of the screen to search for any unanswered questions in the interview.
Use the red navigation bar to review all the unanswered questions in the current interview.
Click Save to Matter to generate and save a Word document to the LEAP matter in any of its folders.

The WealthCounsel Word Ribbon is required for documents to load correctly in Microsoft Word. If not already installed, click Install Ribbon when prompted to download the Ribbon.

Double-click to open the document from your LEAP matter and use the WealthCounsel ribbon to make further adjustments (such as inserting a table of contents).

Renaming Your WealthCounsel Document

Once you've opened the desired answer set:

Click on the current name of the answer set (by default, this is typically the document type and creation date).

The Rename Answer Set window will open.
Enter your preferred name for the answer set.
Click Save to apply the changes.

View Existing Answer Sets

To view existing answer sets in a matter, click the WealthCounsel dropdown and Select Matter Documents.

Existing answer sets can be renamed from within the drafting area and from the Matter Documents section.

How to Access DecisionVault from LEAP

DecisionVault lets you create and update matters and contacts in LEAP from DecisionVault which will then let you use those contacts in the drafting in WealthCounsel through LEAP.

You access DecisionVault from their website and can push the contacts (currently Client, Children and Additional Contacts) to LEAP from DecisionVault through the Connector. There is no way to access DecisionVault directly through LEAP.

How to Access Wealth Tracx

The Wealth Tracx, from WealthCounsel is now available for Trust Administration Matter types in LEAP delivering the documents, tools, and task management features you need for efficient postdeath trust administration. To Access Wealth Tracx within LEAP:

Navigate to an existing Trust Administration matter, or create a new one.
From the Details & Correspondence tab of the matter, click the Trust Administration button with a WealthCounsel sub-heading.
The first time you open the app, you will be presented with a permission request.

Click Allow as Admin or Allow to continue.

If you encounter a pop-up message saying, "This feature requires a WealthCounsel account," it indicates that an active WealthCounsel membership is necessary to access the LEAP integration. To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

Verify Your Membership: Ensure that your WealthCounsel membership is active.
Check Email Address: Confirm that the email address associated with your LEAP account matches the one registered with your WealthCounsel membership.
Contact WealthCounsel Support: If the issue persists, reach out to WealthCounsel’s Member Services team for assistance in verifying your membership status.

Using Scenarios in LEAP

To use a scenario in drafting with Wealth Docx, follow these steps:

Open a relevant matter type in LEAP.
From the Details & Correspondence tab, click the Create or Edit Document button with a WealthCounsel sub-heading which will direct you to the Create a Document main screen.
Choose the appropriate Wealth Docx platform eg RLT , Wills . After selecting the platform and document set, WealthCounsel will automatically assign a matter number from LEAP.
Select the Create From Scenario option.

This will show all scenarios you have for this document set.
Choose the appropriate scenario, then click Create Document.

WealthCounsel will automatically name the answer set for you, but you can change it by clicking on the answer set name if needed.
The "Matter Documents" link in the WealthCounsel menu within the LEAP matter offers a quicker way to resume drafting an answer set if needed, and it provides a convenient way to manage all answer sets (documents) associated with that matter.

Scenario Library option is helpful for editing and creating scenarios.

WealthCounsel Client Intake Forms

Please note that Intake Forms is a native WealthCounsel feature and is not included as part of the LEAP integration.

Intake forms created prior to migrating to LEAP can be accessed here.
Intake for LEAP matters can be achieved using LEAP’s Client Connect feature, or via third-party integrations available through the LEAP Marketplace.
