How To

Allocate fees to staff members in LEAP to ensure accurate accounting. Learn to set auto-allocation on a matter level or individually for invoices and understand the process of reallocating fees and managing fee allocation reversals.

Only Time/Fee amounts can be allocated amongst staff members. This does not change the total amount of the invoice.

Reallocate Fees on a Matter

Matters can be set to auto-allocate fees based on a pre-set percentage. To automatically set fee allocation for all future invoices generated on a matter:

Open the matter.
Open Matter Details > Accounting.
Tick the Auto-Allocate Fees checkbox.
Click Add Staff.

The Select Staff window will open.
Highlight the staff member and click Select.

Add more staff, if required.
Reallocate fees by Percentage.

Click to edit heading

Please note all staff members must have a positive percentage.

Click Apply.
Click OK.

Reallocate Fees on an Invoice

You can also allocate fees to individual invoices rather than setting fee allocations on a matter level:

Open the matter.
Click LEAP Accounting.

LEAP Accounting will open in a new window.
Click the Operating Account > Expenses & Receivables tabs.
Right-click the finalized invoice and select Reallocate Fees.
Click Add Staff.

The Select Staff window will open.
Highlight the staff member and click Select.

Add more staff, if required.
Reallocate fees by Percentage or Amount.
Click Save & Close.

Once fees are allocated, the invoice in the accounting ledger will have a Fees Allocated label.

You can only do this once unless the fee allocation is reversed.

Edit Fee Allocation

Open the matter.
Click LEAP Accounting.

LEAP Accounting will open in a new window.
Click the Operating Account > Expenses & Receivables tabs.
Right click the finalized invoice > Open Fee Allocation.
Click Edit.
Update the required fields.
Click Save & Close.

Reverse a Fee Allocation

Open the matter.
Click LEAP Accounting.

LEAP Accounting will open in a new window.
Click the Operating Account > Expenses & Receivables tabs.
Open the finalized invoice.
Click > Open Fee Allocation.
Click on the toolbar.
Edit the Reason, if required.
Click Save & Close.

View the History of a Fee Allocation

This is only available once there has been a reversal of a fee allocation on the invoice.

Open the matter.
Click LEAP Accounting.

LEAP Accounting will open in a new window.
Click the Operating Account > Expenses & Receivables tabs.
Open the finalized invoice.
Click > Open Fee Allocation.
Highlight an item and click Select to view it.

Reallocate fees

Open the matter.
Hover over the Operating Account tab and click Expenses & Receivables.
Right-click the finalized invoice and select Fee Allocation.
Click Add Staff. The Select Staff Member window will open.
Select the staff member.

Add more staff, if required.
Rellocate fees in the Allocation column.
Click Save.

Reverse a fee reallocation

Open the matter.
Hover over the Operating Account tab and click Expenses & Receivables.
Open the finalized invoice.
Click Open Fee Allocations.
Open the fee allocation.
Click Reverse.
Edit the Reason, if required.
Click Save.

View the history of a fee reallocation

This is only available once there has been a reversal of a fee allocation on the invoice.

Hover over the Operating Account tab and click Expenses & Receivables.
Open the finalized invoice.
Click Open Fee Allocations.
Open an item to view it.

When a partial payment is received for an invoice containing allocated fees, this amount will be distributed between the included staff based on the percentage of their total contribution.
